Dear Beautiful Soul,
Today, I’m checking in on your stress and anxiety level. I know you’re dealing with a lot. A lot of fear, uncertainty and overwhelm.
told me recently that the feeling of powerlessness coupled with vulnerability is a hard, scary place. That place is very dark. She put into words the exact combination that knocks even superheroes to their knees: powerlessness and vulnerability. I felt better after hearing her wise words.
Here’s my antidote to powerlessness and vulnerability: connectivity and vulnerability. It looks like this . . .
Practice deliberately looking for beauty, for the thing that lights you up. For me, it’s usually moments in Nature—light and shadow, a long view, a sunset, a sunrise, a good tree. (I do love a good tree, trees light me up every day.) That thing that lights you up is a mirror for the light you are. The light that you are is what will naturally find the thing that lights you up. You’re connecting your inner light with something outside of you that makes it burn a little brighter.
Then once you find that thing, get vulnerable and share it. Connect with someone and share it. Ask the cashier at the grocery store if they too saw the gorgeous sunrise. Ask a co-worker if they saw those first spring buds on the trees by the parking garage. Tell someone, anyone, about the beauty you’ve experienced and you’ll be bringing your light into the world.
Find beauty that lights you up, connect with someone and share it.
It’s a pretty simple antidote but when practiced deliberately, it makes you feel better. When you share the light you are, you dispel some of the darkness. And that is good.
Let’s keep the good going and growing . . .
XO Laura
PS. Light up right now! Share some beauty you’ve experienced lately. Let’s collectively burn a little brighter here for a few moments on Substack. XO
I so appreciate you sharing my thoughts with your readers. And I couldn't agree more about the soothing balm of seeking beauty, especially in nature. When we explore the world with our senses and really embrace what we find, it helps to signal our brain and nervous system that "I am ok right now", which is very important when you're living through a difficult time.
" Tell someone, anyone, about the beauty you’ve experienced and you’ll be bringing your light into the world." is powerful and something we all need to do more. Thank you for another great Letter.
