I'll Probably Need Ice Cream . . .
Dear Beautiful Soul,
Welcome to the New Year, 2024! If you’re into numerology at all, you’ll know that 2024 adds up to the number 8 so we’re in an 8 year—8 being a very auspicious number as well as being the infinity symbol in a vertical kind of way:
8 instead of ∞ (That’s Option + 5 on a Mac FYI.)
Am I into numerology? Yes, I suppose so but in a “when it’s convenient” manner, rather like my approach to reading my horoscope (Virgo)—when the mood strikes me or other resources aren’t quite getting to the heart of the matter. That’s when I turn to numerology and my horoscope because in truth there is a time and a place for everything. Including ice cream.
I do wonder if someone somewhere has determined a way to read the remains of one’s ice cream bowl, akin to reading tea leaves. Of course, if you, like me, are a person who bypasses the bowl and goes straight for the carton/spoon technique then reading the remains is rendered moot. And that’s tidy. As a Virgo, I approve of tidy.
Here’s something that has been striking me as not quite tidy and yet not quite calamitous: New Year, New You. It’s so ingrained in our psyche, so prevalent in the marketing and messaging and influencer-ing we’re swimming in that I believe we aren’t benefitting from the essence anymore.
I’ve always felt that New Year, New You was an invitation to closely examine one’s life through the lens of what one really truly wants and discard what is holding one back. By discarding the dross, one creates space for something that will hopefully fuel the journey to creating an authentic, fulfilling life. In my experience that something will not be a fad diet, workout, item of clothing (although new shoes have remarkable power) or new empty calendar/blank journal. The something(s) that are good fuel tend to be new beliefs, supported by new behavior, supported by caring believers who want the best for you and themselves. Then, a new way of eating or moving or dressing or a fabulous blank canvas has a true place to live as well as have meaning and power.
Here’s my update: New Year, New True You.
New Year, True You just sounds wonderful doesn’t it? (Rhetorical).
I’m off to buy ice cream, which I will eat with a spoon. No need to read the remains in the bowl as I’m a bowl-free ice creamer. That’s true to me. What’s true to you?
What’s true to you is really good, I guarantee it.
Let’s keep the good going and growing . . .
XO Laura
